New Podcast! The Citadel Cafe

by Joel on November 21, 2011 at 12:00 pm
Posted In: Podcasts

On Thursday last week I launched a new podcast! The Citadel Cafe is a show where I get together with two of my best friends, Chad Merlin and Paton Francis, and we chat about the things that we’re into. To give the show some subtext we say, “pop culture, sci-fi and fantasy” but we have a wide range of interests. If we think it’s cool, we’re going to talk about it. We want to let the conversation flow naturally.

You can find out more at TheCitadelCafe.com. The show is also available on iTunes and we have lots of different ways to follow us on social media. We don’t want to just talk at you, we want to talk with you. So, feel free to send us your thoughts!

The email for the show is thecitadelcafe@gmail.com.

PS: We may have some special guests lined up!

Fan Art Friday: James Anderson

I am really excited to share my first Starcrossed Fan Art Friday post! Not only is this the very first time that I have received fan art for Starcrossed, but it was sent by the incredibly tallented James Anderson of Ellie On Planet X!

I interviewed James on Episode 118 of Comics Coast to Coast back in July. I really admire his work this was a real treat and a total surprise.

Thanks so much James!

Hal-Con 2011 Photos & Con Sketches

by Joel on November 15, 2011 at 11:47 am
Posted In: Appearences, Hal-Con

As promised here is a look at some of the happenings at Hal-Con 2011. I shared a table in the vendor room with my good friend Paton Francis from Cardboard Treehouse. We had lots of fun meeting a ton of new people, comic and sci-fi fans, parents and kids. Everyone was super nice. Paton has posted his own Hal-Con 2011 Wrap-up on his blog.

I want to give a special thank you and shout out to anyone who picked up a Starcrossed print as well to the folks below who commissioned an original Hal-Con sketch. Your support helps keep Starcrossed going every week!

Posted In: Appearences, Press, Publication

Here are some details on what you can expect at Hal-Con 2011 this weekend. If you’re in Halifax this weekend (Nov 13th & 14th) swing on by the table in the first floor vendor area and say hi.

Prints

Starcrossed Comic Prints
You can also order a print of your favorite comic and I will ship it to you within the week.

Starcrossed Mini-prints
Some fun, colorful ways to support Starcrossed!

Original Art

Sketch Cards
2.5″ x 3.5″ sketch cards as seen in the Starcrossed Store.

Con Sketches
Stop by the table and request a sketch of any favorite comic character! There will be a sign up sheet so you can browse while I draw my take on your request. Con sketches are drawn and inked on 9″ x 12″ bristol.

Sketches & Other Artwork
I will have a small selection of original drawings for sale. You can see some of them in the Starcrossed Gallery.

Starcrossed Original Art
If you’ve been dying to pick up a Starcrossed original, stop by the table on Saturday and let me know which comic you want and I will be sure to bring it with me on Sunday. Originals are pretty big, 17″ x 6.75″.

I will have some frames with me. If you want, you can walk out with your artwork ready for the wall, or as a gift for a friend. The frames are only suitable for prints.

Comics Coast to Coast 131: The Katie Cook Interview

by Joel on November 8, 2011 at 8:28 am
Posted In: Comics Coast to Coast

Join me, Matthew DuCharme, our host Brian Dunaway and guest Katie Cook, the artist behind Gronk on Episode 131 of Comics Coast to Coast!

Katie Cook is a comic book artist and illustrator. She has worked on licenses ranging from Star Wars to Marvel Comics to Lord of the Fings to Fraggle Rock and more. Cartooning is all she’s ever wanted to do with her life (besides her ambition to be a Muppet or a robot as a child).
